Vietnamese - Lao Culture Festival to celebrate Laos' Traditional New Year - Bunpimay

In order to create a chance for Vietnamese students and Lao students studying at the University of Danang - University of Science and Education (UD-UED) to exchange and understand each other’s traditional culture as well as promote the Vietnam-Laos friendship, on the afternoon of April 8, UD-UED organized the Vietnamese – Lao Culture Festival celebrating Laos’ traditional New Year - Bunpimay in 2022.

Attending the ceremony, there was the participation of Ms. Lienseng Phengsavath - First Secretary, Education and Culture Department, Consulate General of Laos in Da Nang, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Le Quang Son, Vice President of the University of Danang; and the representatives of member universities of the University of Danang. From UD-UED, the participants included Dr. Bui Bich Hanh - Vice Rector, the representatives of departments and faculties, lots of Vietnamese and Lao students. The ceremony was also live on YouTube for Departments of Education and Sports in Central and Southern provinces of Laos. Making the speech at the Festival, Dr. Bui Bich Hanh - Vice Rector of the University shared that like the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, Bunpimay is an opportunity to reunite and get together with family, to present traditional rites to express gratitude towards the ancestors, to show respect to the divine, heaven and earth, and also to show affection to each other.

''There are many reasons why Laotian students cannot return to their homeland to celebrate the traditional New Year with their families. Empathizing with Laotian students, UD-UED has organized the Vietnamese - Lao Culture Festival to enable Vietnamese students and Lao students to connect and conduct cultural exchange through the activities carrying the rituals of Bunpimay and Vietnamese cultural activities. I believe that Lao students will have memorable experiences on Bunpimay in Vietnam, reducing the nostalgia for family, homeland and country”, Dr. Bui Bich Hanh said.

Ms. Lienseng Phengsavath - First Secretary, Education and Culture Department, Consulate General of Laos in Da Nang expressed her gratitude to UD-UED for organizing the Vietnamese - Lao Culture Festival for Lao students to celebrate the traditional New Year and have the opportunity to experience the traditional culture of Vietnam.
Vietnamese and Lao students performed traditional costumes of the two countries with the theme "Cham-Pa flower season".
Lao and Vietnamese students participated in folk games
The Vietnamese – Lao Culture Festivalincluded 02 parts: the ceremony and the fun activities. The ceremony was in the meeting hall, Building A5. The fun activities were at the sports area. The fun activities included football games, Lao traditional activities, traditional games, fashion performance and exchange of Vietnamese - Lao cuisine.
Vietnamese students were excited to experience the culinary culture of Laos
UD-UED is an educational institution with the tradition and reputation in training Lao students from the southern and central provinces of Laos. In 2020, the University was honored to be awarded the 3rd Class Labor Medal by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic for its great contributions to training human resources for the southern and central provinces of Laos.
